We will explore fundamentals that every non-profit planned giving program should have in place.  This session will share the National Standards for Gift Planning Success, created by the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.

The Wilderness Society and Sharpe Group have been partners for 15 years in building a successful gift planning program and this session will outline the steps taken to grow the Wilderness Society’s overall efforts as seen through the lens of the CGP standards.

Joe Chickey brings more than 30 years of experience in the charitable arena, with a focus on gift planning to the Sharpe Group. Based in Nashville, TN, he is a Senior Consultant and Senior Vice President. He has spoken locally, regionally and nationally on major and planned giving to estate planning councils, AFP, CASE and local CGP groups. His recent speaking engagements include the Chicago Council on Planned Giving, Colorado Summer Symposium, The Santa Fe Opera, Purdue University Development Day and University of Texas Systems Philanthropy Day.  Joe recently completed a three-year term as a board member of the National Association of the Charitable Gift Planners (CGP).

Joe served as lead fundraiser for a $1.5 billion capital campaign at the University of Illinois and a $500 million capital campaign for Rush Medical Center in Chicago. He has administered charitable remainder trusts, lead trusts, gift annuities, life estates and IRA gifts.

He has experience from the nonprofit side and for-profit side, as a gift planner for nonprofits and a bank trust officer. For 14 years, he worked with nonprofit endowments, family foundations and high net worth clients. His expertise includes estate and financial planning, asset management and charitable planning.

Joe earned a bachelor of arts degree in finance from Rhodes College and a master’s degree in business administration from University of Illinois.

Sean Twomey, Director of Giving and Impact at The Wilderness Society, leads an animated planned giving program continuously working to build relationships and find solutions that fit the unique needs, motivations and circumstances of Society donors. During the past nine years, and through multiple roles at The Wilderness Society, Sean has overseen a transformation of the program, enjoying record breaking revenue and program growth by helping their donors achieve their charitable goals.

Of note, Sean’s roots run deep within the performing arts. At heart a musician (MM from Peabody/Johns Hopkins) and musicologist (MA University of Pittsburgh) he has performed with orchestras such as those of Detroit and Pittsburgh, served as Adjunct faculty at the Peabody Institute and got his start in fundraising as a grant writer for the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.  Additionally, Sean is a proponent of youth development and service to community, and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 1427 for many years.
