Wealthy Americans hold their wealth primarily in assets which are not cash. However, most charitable donations are made with cash- perhaps because that is what charities are requesting. Courtney Tsai, of Schwab Charitable’s Charitable Strategies Group will discuss:

  • How to expand fundraising conversations to include non-cash assets, such as privately held business interests, restricted stock, real estate, cryptocurrency, and other appreciated assets.
  • How to explain the multiple tax benefits of gifts of non-cash assets.
  • How to work with a third-party charity (such as a Donor Advised Fund) to accept gifts of non-cash assets which your charity may not accept directly.

Courtney Tsai is a Senior Manager in the Charitable Strategies Group at Schwab Charitable. She educates advisors and donors on tax and legal issues associated with complex gifts and conducts the due diligence review of donated contributions. Courtney has extensive charitable gift planning experience, previously serving as Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving at George Washington University and as a charitable gift planner at the University of Chicago, at Pepperdine University, and at the Easterseals National Office. Courtney is a member of the National Capital Gift Planning Council and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law. She is a member of the bar of the District of Columbia and is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy.

This event is being held with AFP-DC.
